In Ephesians 5:19 and Colossians 3:16 we see the phrase “psalms and hymns and spiritual songs”. Whenever I think of these verses, I am reminded of when I learned a couple of ditties that I would classify as spiritual songs and I would like to share them with you.

The first one goes like this:

Praise the Lord anyhow

I won’t let troubles get me down

When trials and troubles come my way

I just lift my hands up and say

Praise the Lord anyhow.

I have often found myself singing this little song to myself when things look like they are getting to me and always have my spirits lifted when I do.

The second deserves a short explanation. In countries with kings or queens they sometimes have multiple palaces or castles and move between them. In Great Britain, for example, they have Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, and Balmoral in Scotland. When the monarch is in residence at one of them, the royal flag flies above it to signify that the king or queen is in residence at that location. With that background here is tune:

Love is the flag flown high o’er the castle of my heart

The castle of my heart

The castle of my heart

Love is the flag flown high o’er the castle of my heart

When the king is in residence there.

This has been a short post this time, but I hope that when troubles come your way, you will remember these spiritual songs and gain some peace for having your faith bolstered when you sing them to yourself and others.
